The President of Equatorial Guinea has also rejected and condemned the unconstitutional changes of governments on the African continent in recent years, provoked and caused by external factors with the involvement of foreign fighters and mercenaries to safeguard their political and economic interests, thus causing a real threat to the peace and security of the African continent.
Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has invited everyone to invest in the stability of their countries, in order to bequeath a peaceful, stable and prosperous continent to the next generation.
The Angolan president called for the mobilization of African countries against terrorism, without ambiguity or hesitation, and for the firm condemnation of the unconstitutional changes of Governments in Africa so that they do not acquire “a character of normality”.
João Lourenço was speaking at the Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, which takes place in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, where more than a dozen heads of state or government participate.
This summit had as its slogan: “Solid response, deep democracy and joint solidarity”. It is one of the most important continental meetings, which has brought together a large number of African leaders in person, since the appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the summit, the AU Peace and Security Council will present policy proposals based on its May 19 deliberation on the causes that contributed to the frequency of coups on the continent.
This AU body will also propose mandatory civilian oversight of the Armed Forces and the need to describe the circumstances in which armies are deployed to manage internal security challenges.
